Westward Expansion: The Finale. Or Is It?
It’s been an action-packed storyline, and as publishers we’re going to miss it. But there’s word on the street and rumblings in the deep carpet of the halls of City Hall that it may continue down the road.
We’ll be there.
So far, no official word from the landowners has been seen regarding a reason.
So we’re left with what we learned from the presentation they never made but we got a hold of.
“The prior DRIs lacked diligence of planning to appropriately match uses with the characteristics of the land, minimize the impact of infrastructure development and promote economic development.
The DRIs contained multiple zoning restrictions ‘poison pills’ that stifle development, decrease market competitiveness and are not feasible for the future growth of Palm Coast.”
Poison pills. That’s the word they reached for to describe the workforce housing requirement, the groundwater protections, the water-quality monitoring, the concurrency rule that put infrastructure ahead of rooftops.
But it’s done now. Or is it? Are they just waiting for the election, believing they can pack the City Council and have their way with the city?
Or do they think they have some trick they can pull, forcing their plans down taxpayers’ throats?
We’ll be watching.
Next up: we take a hard look at Palm Coast’s Community Development Districts (CDDs).
What are they?
Who are they?
What do they do?
First, we’ll take a look at the Landings CDD (Cascades). A while back, they issued a $6 million bond. How does that work, and where does that money go?
We got bank statements. Stay tuned.
